Since my last post, we have been up to Village Q for the weekend and then the next weekend moved into a 'new' house. Lots of things going on for us!
The trip to village Q was fun. It was a lot of travel for a short time but I am thankful to have had the opportunity to finally spend some time in the village getting to see it and meeting the people. It was the first time I, Michele, was able to spend the night and was there longer than a couple of hours. It made me very excited for our future there. The people all seemed pretty interested in us. Most seemed shy and just would stare at us and not talk a whole lot back when I tried to engage them. A couple of ladies talked with us for a while. It is nice that many speak Spanish as well as Zapoteco so we are able to communicate!
For the following couple days after the trip we were all sick with a stomach bug. Praise God we are all recovered!
Right after that we started moving up to the new house which is only about 8 blocks from where we were living. We spent our first night here on Easter Sunday. Apart from a few boxes, we are all unpacked. What relief! It's nice to have space to put things and really make this place our home after living in the other family's house for a couple of months. It was a blessing but we are really thankful for this house! We were able to purchase some items from that family as they are moving to another city- so far we bought their fridge, dining room set and a full bed & frame. We might be able to purchase more but are still waiting. We bought a new washer and queen bed. Hoping to get a bed frame soon and maybe a couch and changing table. The neighborhood we are in now is a little nosier and busier but I think overall this will be a good thing. There is a store right across from our house and the lady seems really friendly so I am hoping it provides more opportunity to speak Spanish! We plan to be in this house as long as we live in Oaxaca City. So exciting that we are officially on our first term here in Mexico. It's been just about 2 months since we have arrived!
We were going to make a quick trip back to TX to renew visas (though we have until the end of July for that) and pick up all our baby stuff (as now we are having the baby here in Mexico instead of TX) but we decided to stay put as my health has been a little touchy. Chris plans to meet our good friend Greg Giordano half way in two weeks to pick up the rest of our stuff. We will be here in Oaxaca until the end of July when our visas expire and then will make a quick trip up to TX for a few days to renew them and return back here to Oaxaca City.
